20 MB flash on 1600R ?

20 MB flash on 1600R ? open original image

An updated IOS image sent to replace one subject to the IOS Heap overflow vulnerability arrived at 16,855,588 bytes. TAC rep said the min requirements are 10MB dram, 16MB flash. Problem- the flash card is around 16,500,000 bytes, about 300k short of holding the image.



I have a 20 MB flash card, but it appears the 1600 won't see anything above 16 MB.



Is there a way to make the 1600 recognize the full 20 MB of the flash card? (In case it matters, router has 8MB base mem + 16 MB dimm).

Hi Jay,

1600-R series router images run from RAM.

The run from RAM images are compressed and have -mz in the filename. Because the run from RAM image is stored in Flash in a compressed state, and decompresses into RAM at bootup, less Flash and more RAM is required.

Verify whether the image is a run from a Flash image ( with a -l in the filename ), or a run from the RAM image ( with a -mz in the filename ).

Do you know why the router only recognizes 16 MB of a 20 MB flash card? It is a completely unpartitioned flash card that other devices see as 20 MB available, but the 1600R only sees the first 16 MB.

Are the 1600R's limited in how much flash they can recognize?
