1811W - PC's can no longer see eachother AT ALL!!! (HELP!)

Hi all - I have several/many pc's connected to an 1811W. Since I upgraded to the 1811W - no pc can see any other. No file sharing, no printer sharing, computers cannot even ping each other - yet all computers get IP address's from the router and can access the internet perfectly.

I have done EVERYTHING you can with these XP Pro machines and I am left thinking its something I need to do in the router so that all of the computers connected to it can see each other and share stuff out (which is integral to my own business). I have nothing but the basics setup on the router and haven't really done much in their to tool around. I am also not a Cisco expert (been years since I was in a Cisco 'class') - so if someone could just tell me what it is I need to do, that would great. I am not looking for anything extreme here - i just want any PC connected to the router to be able to see any other PC connected to the router.

I have several devices connected through Ethernet and several wireless devices connected as well.

(Sorry for typos)

Verify that PSPF (Public Secure Port Forwarding) is not configured on the radio interface.

This feature prevents wireless clients from communicating with each other.

sh run interface dot11radio

here is the configuration file output when I log in - perhaps this will answer any questions (perhaps not, more information from me follows this):

I Hope that helps ;-) Beyond that, I essentialy have factory defualts. The only thing that I really specified was that the radio connections should use the same IP pool as the wired. The WAN interface uses FastEthernet0 (that port to connect to the outside internet); the "inside" network connection (not physically, just anything that's on the 'inside' of the router) seems to be called something like "BVI1"; the internal net address range from 10.10.10.1 (the router) to

10.10.10.250-something; the host name for the router is "neogenesisconsultingHOST"; and the router gets its outside IP dynamically and is a DHCP client; there is no domain because, really, there isnt one as of yet.

I am not sure what else to tell you - let me know and THANK YOU for any help!

Well, its not just the wirelessly connected machines - no machine (wired or wireless) can even ping any other machine. Its as if the router is isolatuing each machine its connect to so that it can communicate with it and the outside world, but not anyhting on the inside. Config file is posted...

for the PC connected to interface FA2 and Fa3, try to ping one PC from the other.

assuming these are Windows PCs, go into command mode and get the MAC address of PC using ipconfig /all look for hardware addresss. make note of it.

After pinging otehr PC, issue arp -a command to see if the PC is able to sucesfully get an ARP response from the PC that was pinged. Make sure the PCs do not have any firewall software running when you do these ping tests.

Post the PCs IP address , their MAC address and the port connected to (i.e. Fa 2 or Fa 3)

BTW does the 1811W support the command "show mac-address-table"

The result of that command is as follows (show mac...)

Destination Address Address Type VLAN Destination Port

The computers cannot ping eachother at all. Just tried it again, with what you said. Ping results in 100% loss - I can only ping the router and outside computers/places (like

- but that is no shock.

here is the information on the two computers that you requested:

Destination Address Address Type VLAN Destination Port IP

------------------------ -------------- ----

------------------- ------------

0007.e93e.24e8 Dynamic 1 FastEthernet3 10.10.10.8 (dynamic) 0090.f53a.3ea9 Dynamic 1 FastEthernet3 10.10.10.6 (dynamic)

do you NEED to know anything about any of the other currently connected machines?

DAMN! I thought there would be some simple solution LOL! I just want all the PC's on the inside (of the router) to be able to see eachother. :-(

I would suggest that you try testing the connectivity between the wired devices first.

Device A is on port FA 2 with IP address 10.10.10.2 and MAC address

000f.1f54.9f02

Device B is on port FA 3 with IP address 10.10.10.6 and MAC address

0090.f53a.3ea9

Device C is on port FA 3 with IP address 10.10.10.8 and MAC address

0007.e93e.24e8

Do you have a hub plugged into the 1822W on port FA 3 ?

Can Device A (10.10.10.2) ping Device B (10.10.10.6) ?

On Windows run "cmd" and type ping followed by the IP address

then type arp -a and see what it displays

Here is an example:

C:\\>ping 192.168.1.1

I will try that out and let you know the results - in the mean time, here is the current setup with only a small number of the total devices here connected to the router:

The router accesses the internet through a cable modem to which it is connected via the Fast Ethernet 0 port (WAN interface). Fast Ethernet

1 (the other one that can be used for a secondard WAN interface) is connected to nothing.

Device B & C connect to the router at FA 3 (as you noted) - but here is how: FA3 goes out and connects to a linksys switch - that switch is connected to a Device C and also another linksys switch, which in turns connects to Device B and an xbox 360 which is sometimes on and sometimes off (the internet is a mix of work and home-use machines - all run XP Pro, except the 360, obivously lol).

Device A connects directly to the router at FA 2 (as you noted, but perhaps was not aware of a direct connection)

There are two laptops that connect wireless to the router through its 2 WLAN-interface antenna's.

Ok - so that is the setup as it currently is - I am hoping that once this issue is settled I can throw the rest of the devices up onto this network and get back to work as I use to know it :-)

I will now try what you said to do in the above post... Again, thank you for your help!!

  1. So all of the devices can receive ARP replies from each other as demonstrated by the results of the ping tests. This means that the devices are in fact bridged together via the 1811W. Something is blocking ping packet (ICMP packets).

2.From Device A( .2), Device B (.6) or Device C (.8), can you ping

10.10.10.3 ?

  1. Can you install Ethereal on one of the PC say Device A since it is directly connected to the 1811W. Ethereal is a packet capture program. Enable capture and ping device A from B or C. Look at the Etherreal packet capture to see if you receive an ICMP request packet (ping) from either of those devices.
