page lookup loading very slow?

RR in Manhattan. A Toshiba 2200 modem attached to a Linksys BEFRX41 router. Win XP Pro.

In recent weeks I have noticed a hesitation as pages start to load. It usually says "looking up .....site" and then contacting etc. But the "looking up" part seems to be taking longer and sometimes it just hangs, although that's not too frequent.

DSL speed tests come in around 26000 so that seems ok.

I updated the firmware on the router but it didn't seem to change anything.

Then I made the mistake of trying to fiddle with the RWIN in the registry and it didn't seem to make much of a difference but I've now NO idea what the ideal number would be for the RWIN.

So, any thoughts as to what might be slowing down the initial "look up" phase of loading pages?

Also, is there a way to set all the registry parameters such as RWIN back to their default? How do I find out what the default is?

TIA

Louise
