Sharing highspeed digital modem with desktop and laptop

Jun 07, 2006 2 Replies

I have a wireless router and a laptop with a wireless card. My desktop now is hardwired to a highspeed digital modem. If I use the router to both maintain the connection to the desktop and to go wireless to the laptop, will there be a significant reduction in download speed to the desktop? Thanks for your thoughts on this.

No. only impact will be downloading large files to both computers at same time.

Depends on the speed of the highspeed digital modem, and on the power of the secret router (whatever it is). Some low-end routers don't have the horsepower to keep up with really fast connections.
