Says "cannot connect" -- but it's connected

T7700, Vista, Sony SZ laptop



When selecting a new network (Connect to...) which I know is functional, this unit will say "...taking longer than usual..." and then "...cannot...". Diagnosis generates no result.



HOWEVER -- the signal strength meter shows that it quickly connects, and in fact wireless apps work.



What idiotic error did I make in setting this up?

Using Vista as your OS ?

Seriously, someday when the bugs are ironed out and all, I want to sort out the seemingly crazy and complicated Vista approach to wireless networking security.

The few times I had to help somebody with Vista connect to our system, I ran into similar stupidity. Warnings that the connection was not complete, something. Of course the actual connection worked fine, there was no actual problem apart from being misled by the Vista warning.

Of course, I'm experienced in XP, so I sort of expected Vista to be similar, but noooooo...
