Smoke detector question

I don't put smokes in kitchens or in family rooms that have fireplaces. I'll use a rate of rise heat instead - I'll put a smoke just outside the kitchen but not in it...each app. is different.

The 15P can use 2 or 4 wire smokes...use the 2 wire ones that way you don't have to muck around with power supervision relays...and of course you will use fire-rated wire.

no smokes in the kitchen. heat detectors are ok in kitchen area and garage adn crawl space by heaters etc. for attics 200degree or higher detectors recommended. rate of rise and fixed temp combo units are good for faster catch than just fixed temp.

It's in the old part of the house so I'm using wireless. Cost a little more but I won't have to retrofit wiring. The new part of the house is hardwired.

I run into that all the time..quad for smokes...I won't install on it if its fired that way...but at least I can use it to pull new firewire.

BUT almost as bad is when someone does run firewire...but 2 conductor home runs to each smoke. Sheesh...there's a buncho morons out there.

Hey Crash, THANK YOU for informing him about using fire rated wire!!!!!!!!!!! Out here on Long Island , I'm doing a 1.5 Mil house and right NEXT DOOR (same design house ) is a semi large LI Company who shall remain nameless (located in Holbrook, and the "specialize" in Audio) who has prewired ALL the smokes and heats with 22/4 quad wire! Licensing MEANS nothing! EDUCATION is a MUST. (and he's not even an electrician BUT his chief installer/partner worked as a counter jerk for ADI for years! Guess he learned NOTHING! I got bored with snow/slush/rain and gray skies from November - March. Hardly ever rains out here...can work my guys to death. & I can wear shorts almost all year.

How come you didn't stay? Jim and I need company! Ditto the 2 wire home run scene. Most often seen is 4-Wire smokes with no EOL Relay, or electricyans trying to gimick 120V hardwireds into an alarm system. How about: 2-Wire compatibility with the control panel? Pyrotectors on a Ademco Vist 20P? Mike S
