My wife's church just replaced the batteries in their Radio Shack Safe House

49-450B security system but they don't have the manual to reprogram it. The RS Web site has all the technical details (specifications, installation, panel pictures, troubleshooting etc.) but no owner's manual for the programming from the keypad.

There are a couple of these items (or similar) on eBay but don't want to buy one, just need to know how to program it, it was working fine before their power failure.

I've searched the Web and newsgroups but haven't found any references that would point me to a good source.

This particular newsgroup appears to support the professional community more than the do-it-yourselfer so do apologize for the intrusion.

Any info is appreciated, thanks.

Sorry I forgot to add the link...and what a pain it was to find it again.

And again...not sure if this is for the keypad you have either..

I don't see the sheet Crash? The only programming it needs (I'm guessing) is setting up codes to turn the alarm on and off.

Thanks,

Wonder why Radio Shack doesn't put their own product in their own stores..... It's clearly better stuff than Radionic's.....

It's the "Best Buy Syndrome", always pops up when you know more than the sales guy

Heh heh, I asked a Rat Shack sales rep that question several years ago (I had noticed a Radionics keypad mounted on the wall behind the counter)... He just stood there with a big "?" above his head... Then I asked why Tandy motion detectors weren't installed in the store, the "?" got bigger... The guy went from being an electronics expert to electrically retarded in less than 60 seconds :-))

I love to torment Radio Shack Salesman. They always want to ask you what you're using it for. It only ever takes about 6 seconds for the "deer in the headlights" look when I tell them. Generally what I need takes visiting 4 or

5 stores in a 20 mile radius to get all the parts. It should be "You've got questions....so do we..." clueless.

I do like the 6112's monitoring fire in a commercial setting though...priceless

Aren't they just waiting to get an NFPA listing (and CSFM in CA and don't even bring up NYC)

And, you'd not want to be one of their overworked installers either...oh they have a sweet setup as far as corporate making money off the individual stores....what a racket.

When I worked for Radio Shaft...one installer ONE...covered about 4 states...installing and servicing...on the road 3 weeks out of the month.

They charged 5000 BUCKS to the store for the installation of a 6112 and a few other things...took the installer 4 hours to install.

Then they charged the store for monitoring, I cant remember how much but I know it was more than 25 a month. Keep in mind they (RS) were doing the monitoring too.

If you needed a repair you'd have to wait for the wandering installer/tech to come around to your area again...this could be weeks.

I remember a few years back, 10 or so, they wanted to dictate to me what they pay sub-contractors....okay, get right back to ya... I can't wait for the Director of Security from Wal Mart to die...it looks like 10 year olds have been doing security for them as well.

Hey, well at least....so far I haven't come across a 2112 doing the same thing. Guess I better put a call into Joe, and ask him what the hells going on over there. Is the training coming out of China too? Oh, strike that comment...that hurts.

Well I appreciate your 'second effort' Crash, don't know if that's the keypad model but it's probably close enough. It'll probably be about a week before I'll be able to visit the church and try it out.

Thanks again,

Jim

sales guy, its all sales gurls down here, and they have no clue about electronics ... they had some PCs in the store even, and i asked them what the specs were, waited a 1/2 hour to get a "dont know" ...

they set up meetings with their "specialist" when you have any electronic questions, and he still doesnt know ..! Heck none of them even know what they sell ... maybe its a bahamian thing though ;-(
