Napco GEM3200 Reporting problem

I haven't been following this thread to closely but if you are talking about changing the "System Ready" message on the RP1CAe2 keypad, and you're using the Quickloader software, there's no reason that I know of why it wouldn't take changes. I don't know what you are refering to by "hexeditor" and I never need to read the help files so I don't know what that's all about either. And I can't imagine what "debugging" could be accomplished by temporarily changing the keypad message. But, as a matter of fact, if you're using the Gemini 1632, you could be right. That's the only upper end panel that I've never changed the keypad message on. Although, I don't know why it would be different than any other panel that the RP1.... keypad can be used with. I can only suggest that if it doesn't take via the Quickloader software, (although significantly longer to accomplish), you might try to do it via the keypad.

Don't use hex editor to change the keypad message.

Using Napco Quickloader software:

1. Select Area Assignment. 2. Click on the Area Descriptions tab 3. Edit entries for Ready Message: Line 1 and Line 2 4. Hit OK

Save your work and download to the panel.

Side note:

Napco, unlike any other alarm manufacturer I'm familiar with, gives us the chip's address layout. That makes it easier to design software to work with their systems. Also, Quickloader includes (at Tools / Panel Error Check) a useful tool for checking program values. It will warn of missing or incompatible settings. In earlier Quickloader releases of the error check routine itself had problems but they seems to have been remedied.

Always use the error check routine before downloading to the panel and after uploading from a panel (advice to OP.. Jim knows this stuff).

Oh THAT hexi editor! I didn't make the connection. I thought he had some kind of application other than the Quickloader that he was trying to work with.

The error check is ummmm kinda OK. I occasionally am reminded of something I forgot, but you can't depend on it totally. Just running through the entire program as if you were doing it all from scratch will sometimes reveal things that the Error check just doesn't see as important enough to point out. Sometimes I get surprised by the things it misses that you would think would be obvious.

If you go to Address Programming>Messages Editor and Language Editor it gives you a hex editor

I thought since they called it ____*Editor* that I could change stuff and it would download. Is there another way to edit the system messages?

The only change that downloaded was the "SYSTEM READY" message I changed elsewhere in Quickloader

It's handy. The current release is fairly complete, and for a newbie, definitely a must use.

Well, that's true but we've both been through it so many times it's not the same. Even a young tech with some experience can miss something.

Since I'm almost invariably walking someone else through the routine over the phone, I walk them through that, too. Most of the time the client doesn't want monitoring, but a few will set it up and just leave the triggers off in the feature selection screen and leave the telco numbers empty. That shows up and shows them how to handle it later.

To the best of my knowledge, no. I'm curious why you want to change the system messages, though. I've no objection and if you find a way, I'd love to hear about it. Clients of my online store are always asking how to do different things.
