Where's the Options option in Zone Alarm?

Did you try right clicking on the program entry?

Yeah, that only gives you Remove or Add Program

You need to select "Program Control" from the left side list, then select the "Programs" tab at the top.

Next, highlight one of the programs you want to change. Do you see the "Entry Details" box when you highlight the program? It's at the bottom of the window. If you don't see that, you need to scroll down in the window (or enlarge the window) to see it.

Directly to the right of the "Entry Details" box are two buttons - "Add" and "Options". "Options" is the one you're looking for.

This is sending me insane. I do not have an Options button there, just Add. Here's a screenshot (up for a week):

I've installed Sygate's free product so that I have a 2-way firewall while ZA is causing these problems. But I was happy with ZA and supposedly it will work with Avast as long as Privacy is switched off, which is what I'm trying to do.

I've used ZA for years and it's served me well. Is Sygate free any better/worse? It seems to be updated far less frequently since when I went to update the quite old copy I had, it said there were no updates available. This must be a concern; ZA seems to have an update every other month.

You don't need a "2-way firewall". This is just advertizing nonsense. And Sygate has bad security design flaws.

If you want to have a packet filter on Windows, just use the Windows-Firewall.

If you're using Zone Alarm Free, there is no Privacy Control. Only in ZAP.

Then it's a feature of Zone Alam Free not to have such a dangerous secret publicizing feature.

Looking at your screenshot, I can see that charlie R is right. You're running Zone Alarm *FREE*, which doesn't have privacy controls - so there's nothing to turn off. Those insructions from avast won't help you if you're having a conflict.

You would do better to disable the avast "Web Shield" component - it doesn't do much that's useful, anyhow. It's that module that tends to be the source of conflicts with software firewalls.
