Home Networking/Firewall problem

Both implement an HBPF, yes. And Zone Alarm is implementing much more provisions, many of them useless up to counterproductive.

Actually it is.

While I don't know, what "ppl" is, the terms "packet filter" and "host based" are very common in the *NIX communities.

It does, especially then when it's interfering with legitimate network connections. But at least it does its job without introducing new trouble, including spamming the user with useless messages. Still it's better to disabled unnecessary services.

And they hardly achieve any security. Because this requires some serious configuration, which is hardly related to either the default rules or the useless outputs of the silly questions.

That's what "host-based packet filter" means.

If NAT routers are so secure blocking incoming. then if he has no servers he needs access to through the internet, then he doesn't need a FW blocking incoming.

I'll agree, but most home users don't have that confidence in the solution.
