Routing Problem

First thanks in advance for any help. Here is the problem, We have all users set for DHCP and the default gateway is 10.X.X.1. The IP for the firewall is 10.X.X.2 and all internet traffic is to be routed there.

Lately users have not been able to get out to the internet. We can ping the gateway but not the firewall. We can ping and access all resources on the network. Sometimes an ipconfig /release/renew works sometimes the machine needs to be rebooted. It is totally random and on some machines it has not done it at all. We have also experienced it on a server that is statically assigned.

Please let me know what information would be helpful to trace the problem.

I assume your default GW and your firewall are in the same subnet as the users. If this is true, why not to set up the firewall as default gateway in the DHCP?
