Q: How can one check Cisco parts for a valid serial # ?

Hi,

Apparently there are some fake Cisco parts being manufactured in China for example. How can I determine if the part I'd like to buy (let's say on eBay) has a valid Cisco serial number? I've heard of a serial number tool (SNIF) on Cisco.com somewhere but am not sure where to find it. Is this available to people without a valid Cisco Service Contract Centre login?

Thnx, V

What makes you think that a counterfeiter won't fake/duplicate serial numbers as well?

Buying from eBay is inherently risky. The only way to be sure of authentic/working parts is to use an authorized Cisco reseller.
