Cisco ASA5510 Serial Number trouble..

Jun 10, 2009 1 Replies

I picked up an ASA5510 firewall the other day used, and though everything in it seems great, the reported serial number in a "show version" is wrong! The serial number on the chasis is fine, everything about the unit seems great, just somehow the reported from ROM is messed up!

Does anyone have any idea how to correct this, as when I got a 3DES key from cisco, and tried to update my firewall, now I have an invalid key.

If anyone knows how to resolve this, or pointers to where I might find info on a resolution, please let me know. Nice firewall appliance, but this sure makes it tough to update it..

Sounds like you bought yourself a counterfeit. You could try getting a key based upon the reported serial from the "show version", but I would bet money that Cisco has already flagged that serial as counterfeit and they won't give you a new key or provide you any support.
