Login process for line - Newbie!!

Oct 08, 2006 1 Replies

Hi Folks,

I have been trying to understand an aspect of the login local command. While it does specify where the login information will be validated (i.e. locally or at a TACACS server) & also allows us to specify a password, where do we specify the login username?

Would appreciate if anybody could help me unravel the issue.

I am configuring a 2521 async serial port to access external networks via a dialup modem. I am able to reverse telnet into the line and when I do that, I am not asked a username but straight away for a password Should't the local telnet protocol ask for both?

Once again thank you for all your time and consideration in helping me out.

Regards,

- PinkFloyd

Have You: user "USER" password "PASSWORD" command in your running confguration?

You need local or tacacs authentication of access?

Wlodek.
