dynamic vti configuration

dear all, just wanted to get a view on specific bit of (dynamic) VTI configuration to support connections from systems running cisco vpn client software for windows.

re the ip addressing of the 'virtual-template' from which the dynamically created (tunnel) interfaces are created

examples use 'ip unnumbered loopback0' with a related loopback configuration which has some (arbitrary) ip address configured.

QU. does this ip address and subnet actually have any significance ? i have seen 127.0.0.1 used on windows systems?

it would seem 'important' as this will be the source of all packets going from the router over the tunnel interface ?

just one further note on this is that on the more recent IOS releases from 12.4(17) it would seem that we no longer have 'ip address unnumbered' as an addressing option
