Catalyst 2948G and dynamic VLAN.

Sep 29, 2005 1 Replies

Hi all,

I have been working on the possibility to put devices to specific VLAN on the basis of the MAC address. I know that something similar is possible on Catalysts I would know whether the Catalyst can manage MAC address list or it must ask some externale databases (RADIUS).

Thanks,

Alex.

You want VMPS, and it should be possible to do it on a 2948G running some modern version of CatOS.

You store the MAC addresses on a TFTP server in a file, and have the switch load them remotely from the TFTP server into core.

Read the Catalyst 4500 Series Software Configuration Guide and the Configuring Dynamic VLAN Membership with VMPS chapter.

The 4500 and 2948G are simular (in code, not necessarily in capacity).
