Does anybody know Cisco's official recommendation for the PAgP mode for establishing etherchannel links? Is it 'desirable' on both ends?
It ought to be in most cases. Remember that bpdu will not use other links in the bundle unless desirable is used.

I could but Clark is much better than me
"Utilize the 'desirable' EtherChannel mode for maximum Spanning Tree stability. When using the on mode, it is possible for the entire channel to be declared down when only the single link carrying STP failed."
