I think what you are asking is how many users will a router support. The answer is that routers do not care how many users you have on your segment(s), they DO care about -how much traffic- the users are pushing/pulling.

Now, from another view ... a Cisco 1005? Thats a VERY OLD small branch device. If I remember correctly, It as a single 10bastT interface and built-in WIC-T1. How well this little box will serve 500 users depends on whether they do most of their work over the WAN or over the LAN.

My guess is that with today's applications its not going to be very good!

I suggest you find something a little newer
