2900 Series switch V 2950 switch

I can get a hold of a 2900 series XL switch. Is the 2950 switch that is discussed in Cisco books in this series or is it a totally different kind of switch? Do the use the same IOS?

It's not the same. It uses IOS but the commands and the way you set things up are quite different.
