DSL and Temperature

I have a very shaky DSL connection. When the outside temperature drops below



65 deg (or so) the DSL drops. When the temperature rises above about 75 deg, the connection syncs again. Noise margins and attenuations look good when I am synced but US rate is about 1/3 of what it is provisioned for. DS is at provisioning rate. Here is a cut and paste from my westell 220015 modem. Any Ideas why I drop when it gets cool outside?? The tech that did the install said I was at 19,000 ft.from a RT

You don't say whether you have a shared line (DSL and voice on the same line) or seperate lines. If you have a shared line do your voice calls have any trouble (getting cut off, static, etc.)? It sounds like a loose connection somewhere, when the temp drops the wires contract and break connection, when the temp is warmer the wires expand and make connection. If you have a shared line then it seems that your voice calls would also have trouble. If you have a shared line and voice calls don't have trouble then the problem is at, or past, the DSL filter. If your DSL is on a seperate line then you voice calls won't be affected and the trouble could be anywhere between the RT and your DSL modem. The only other idea I have is that this trouble only APPEARS to be temperature related.

It is a shared voice/DSL line. I have no issues with the POTS. I have tried flashing the switch-hook to pulse the sealing current to see if I could get any loose/dirty connections to connect. There was a Verizon tech looking at the loop and he could find no faults. He used a Dynatel to analyze the loop. He also said that since I am on an RT, I can only expect service to about

14,500 feet????? I thought an RT could go 18,000 just like a CO. In any case I sync when it gets above 72 and it drops during the night when it goes below 60 degrees. I will be OK for a couple of weeks but winter is coming to NJ. Rain and damp do not seem to have any effect. It works well in the rain.
