I have Verizon DSL. I want to drop the phone service since I pay a good bit for my Cingular mobile for 3 family members already, and the reception is good. However, they tell me with Verizon that if I drop the phone line, they remove the "discount" on my DSL and it becomes cost prohibitive. What do I do?

Punt? It seems they have you by "the short hairs", as it were. About all you can do is complain to your local PUC. Or switch to cable or satellite.
Who is they? Have actual numbers from VZ?

Around here, Qwest charges $55/month for 7Mb/s DSL with phone service and $60/month without phone service, including ISP service from Qwest.
If you use your own ISP, it's $38/month with phone service (couldn't find the price without phone service).
What's the price actual difference from Verizon?
