Two access points in same house

[POSTED TO alt.internet.wireless - REPLY ON USENET PLEASE]

In my experience, when there are two APs, it's more likely that there will sooner or later be activity on both than on just one or the other. Since sporadic interference can be hard to notice and eliminate, it's just plain prudent to configure them on different non-overlapping channels.

I was not aware of that. However, if both have the same SSID, I would have no means of determining which I am connected to, right?

Depends. Some Wi-Fi software (not Windows XP) will show you the hardware IDs of different access points with the same SSID. But why would that matter to you?

Nor would you care. You can infer something from signal strength, but if it works flawlessly, you stop noticing.
