The three major router brands (Linksys, D-Link, NetGear) seem to sufferfrom stability problems. Every model has a long list of userscomplaining that device drops/resets/hangs/etc randomly. This is notacceptable! I'd like a wireless router that just goes and goes. Itdoesn't have to be the fastest, or have the greatest range or whatever,it just has to work.Anyone know of any stability tests done on home routers, or have anopinion backed by some serious data? User reviews are totally bi-polar:("My XXX works great. Always on, never have a problem!" I think you'll find that different uses of the wifi routers will havetotally different answers as to the reliability.One major cause of many small embedded systems rolling over andplaying dead after a week or two of uptime is that some aspect of thefirmware has either memory leaks or just fragments the memory. If younever use that buggy part of the firmware or use it sparingly youwon't have any problems for a good long time. If your computersreally bang on the buggy aspect, expect the device to require rebootsafter only a short time.I have never had my wrt54g running openwrt need a reboot because itwas wedged. I regularly see uptimes of many months when I log in tomake config changes. No doubt, half the reason is that I only use thebox to bridge the ethernet to the airwaves and run the wpa2-pskauthentication. It doesn't do nat, dhcp, filtering/firewalling etc.-wolfgang

for the available "keep alive" settings. Note that for the scheduled reboot to work, the "cron" scheduler needs to be enabled. Also, NTP (network time protocol) should be configured, hopefully with the correct time zones and daylight savings times, to insure that it actually happens at the correct times.
