ridiculous bandwidth usage

Nov 12, 2005 2 Replies

Hey all.

This is my first post. At uni im connected via a wireless LAN. Theres about 12 of us connected through a voyager 205.

Im using a windows xp laptop and have installed a bandwith monitor to make sure im not hogging the whole network.

But i am. I use bitcomet for some downloads and although netlimiter and bitcomet says that bitcomet is only downloading at around 20kb, my bandwidth monitor reads downloads at around 200kb. Whats the deal? Theres no other internet programs running, no spyware, adware or viruses.

Any ideas?

Phil

lol

i cant believe i was so thick. cheers. you saved me a lynching!

Are the measurements in the same scale? Bitcomet may be running at 20k-bytes and the bandwidth monitor can be referring to 200k-bits. An 8-10 to 1 ratio between them under those circumstances is to be expected, there being 8 bits to a byte (plus maybe parity etc) Peter
