making my own antenna for linksys router

I have a linksys wrt54gc router and need to add an antenna to boost the strength. The recommended antenna is the high gain antenna hga7s for around $35. Whats involved if I want to make my own antenna, it looks like I need an sma adapter but couldn't I just use 2 feet of coaxil wire for the antenna?

Thanks, Pete

Not much. See if any of these give you ideas. The reflector is the easiest to build. Next easiest is the can followed by the biquad.
