Some fax machines won't work on ADSL 'filtered' lines.

Have just set Linksys Wag 54g up as small office network, no problems at all with network but when I connect the filter and connect the fax machine to filter it will not allow connection either way out or in ! Any one had this problem before and maybe a answer please. The main phone line is a dedicated fax and ADSL by BT and my ISP is Tiscali Broadband. Been in touch with Linksys but they don't seem to have any ideas.Maybe the simple solution would be to ring BT but I don't have a week to spare trying to get an answer from them.
