Comcast giving 3Mbps down and 802.11B ???

No problem. The router contains a speed-matching buffer, it does packet store-and-forward, and it does flow-control on the LAN side.

I installed a Belkin 802.11g router on a Comcast that clocks at 3Mbps down speed, and 284 Kbps up speed.

The client is a desktop that uses a Dlink USB at 802.11b or 11Mbps theoretical maximum speed. The signal is very strong on the Dlink. It seems to be handling the down speed.

QUESTION:

Are people flirting with disaster with these cable companies that are continuing to push the speed up, while users are still deploying 802.11b?

What would happen if we were getting good or very good connections to the router? Would data get lost if the speed coming down were too fast for the actual wireless speed between router and client?
