Airodump not rxing weak IV

Apr 05, 2006 4 Replies

I started up airodump and ran it for over an hour and it didnt pick up a single weak IV. Airodump saw 6 WAPs. Is something not configured right? Thanks RadarG

Some possibilities.

  1. Not enough traffic to crack the WEP key. At 54Mbits/sec you'll get about 10,000 IV's per second. At slower speeds, proportionately less.
  2. They're using WPA instead of WEP. Note that Airodump sometimes claims it's WPA-PSK when it's really WEP. If it does that, it also doesn't record any initialization vectors.

Try it on your own system and see if it works.

You didn't mention your network card, if you have an 802.11b card and the target is using 802.11g then all you'll see in the main are management frames.

One of the WAPs is mine and its WEP. Kismet seems to be working fine. Its not picking up any at all. The card I'm using is a Intel 2200BG its in a dell XPSM140

The thing is I have let this run for hours and not seen the IV values change
