54.0 mbps connection

Hello all, I have just recently upgraded to a wireless connection and notice the connection speed of 54.0 mbps. I have a dsl connection. Is this speed the rate at which the router communicates with the modem? Thanks

You wish!

No, it's the rate at which your computer's network adapter communicates with the router.

And remember, 8 Mbps (megabits per second) = 1 MB/sec (megabytes per second).

So 54Mbps = 6.75MB/sec. Actual throughput (I believe) is half, so at best, you'll get 3-3.5MB/sec transfer speeds.

Depending on the siting of your clients and router, interference will reduce this rate, as will encryption.
