QB users

QB for me. Works pretty well. I use their payroll and credit card processing too.

I hate the way QB doesn't handle recurring billing the way I want.

In my REALLY old accounting system I was able to build billing groups, like Q72S was my billing group for Quarterly 24$ p/m for City of Snotsdale. Pushed one button and it spit out all the invoices (eventually). You can't do that with QB you have to use recurring billing by client which I find annoyng.

I'm pretty sure you can do that in QB too. I have a quarterly group, and 12 groups (JAN, FEB, MAR, etc.) for the ones that want to be billed annually. Why couldn't you set up specific groups as well?

That's exactly how I *want* to do it too. How are you doing it? I gave up (I hate accounting). Groups for quarterly, and then 12 groups for yearlies by annualality (?)

I also have to track by city due to different sales tax rates on monitoring (this is a MAJOR PITA) but I don't think I'd need separate city tax groups since each client's city rate is internal to their account.

Open up the memorized transaction list, and select new group. After you create a group, you can put your new (or existing) memorized transactions into that group when you create them. When it's time to bill that group, just double click on the group name, select the date you want on the invoices, and click ok.

QB keeps track of the sales tax by jurisdiction too, but I have to look at the help file to do it every time. (CRS)

I knew an update was coming but not about the QB integration.

This is the last update for Alarm4. It'll still be supported for a number of years but the next issue is in their new format, which isn't backward compatable with Alarm4, and the new version is over a $grand.

That's the way i was doing it before Alarm 4. One of the things i didn't like was having to have a generic invoice. It won't change the dates for the invoice description. Such "monitoring for MM/YYYY thru MM/YYYY.

Ay-yup. I killed off a lot of brain cells in my twenties that I wish I still had.

Yeah, it's not perfect. You could set up separate invoices for different billing periods, but what a PITA. I just modify the footer text every time I run a batch, with "Service period April - June" or some such, then remove it after I print them. Only takes a second.

A little difficult? Heh. I used to use Dilloware s/w, but had trouble with it. Every March 15 it would quit working, and I had to pay for their tech support, (had to purchase an entire year's worth,) to get it working again. I've since found out that this was intentional; the s/w was designed with a "time bomb"to quit on 3/15, so they could sell more tech support. Look here:

Yeh ..... I did try them also. It seemed like it promised to be good. But as you say, they just weren't up to speed back then. I had to drop them because they just didn't get back to me. But I see that they're still around, so they must be doing something right. Could be that it might be some advantage in using them. Anyone who's using Alarm right now, for the long term, is in for quite a price increase when there's no longer any support for the present version. There just might be some advantage to using Dilloware for someone just starting out. Z micro seems to be catering to the larger companys now-a-days.
