Hayes 1200 8 & 10 Dips

Hello all,

I just picked up a spare 1200 Smartmodem and it has 8 dips instead of 10 dips like my other unit. I need a little help with the settings for the DIPS.

On my 10 dip unit I have 1 - 7 - 9 - 10 switches UP. And it works just fine. I have tried those settings and others on this 8 DIP unit with out any luck.

Anyone know (Attn: Jim Rojas???) what the settings are for the 8 dip version??

I keep getting a "Modem Initialization Error".

I have googled but only got references that ended up as bad links.

I am using Compass -- DL900 -- Sentrol -- and a few others of similar magnitude.

Thanks in advance.

Les

Jim,

Same problem. Would you happen to have a list of switch definitions??

It could be the initialization strings that are being sent but they are the same as what is used for the 10 Dip unit that works fine. I would think that they should be the same regardless of which modem. Any thoughts would help.

Thanks,

Les

For what is worth this modem has a Volume Control so I added Dip 2 OFF to the setting as per below. Same issue.

Hayes Smartmodem 1200 with Volume Control

Is there something quirky about this model Hayes since I could only find one reference to it???

I have use "Phone Dialer" and it works fine.

Again Thanks in Advance.

For Ademco they have always said 10 dip unit had to be used. At one time you could send the 8 dip unit to hayes and get it modified to a 10 dip but hayes is long gone.

Mark Leuck has played with all the modems. If you follow the list provided, you will get better results.

I have always been told that only the 10 dip switch model would work with FBII also. I have a couple of them. I did have an 8 and I was never able to get it to work. There are some guys that sell them on Equipment Matching but they want a premium for them.

I've used both, they work just as well

Mark,

Do you have any reference to the Int. String that works best?? I am trying the default in DL900 and get an error every time.

I don't want to think that this modem has an internal problem because it does work with the Phone Dialer program. And I did get it to work with RPM2PRO twice but was a strange connection.

TIA

I found some interesting links while doing research on this modem issue. Still have not resolved the issue but did learn what did not work. Maybe the links will be helpful to somebody else at some time in the future. Enjoy!!!

It does work and is listed for Ademco however It's not listed for DL900 so I doubt it works and Moose software is very picky, you have to use the

070000038 model

I've had this debate with a guy from New Zealand named Ian who claimed he could get any modem to work. If the specific modem is not listed in the download software it will likely not work nor can ever be made to work

Reply to
Mark Leuck

Thanks for the input Mark. So I gather that I may be beating a dead horse then??

I did find that if I placed "AT" at the beginning of the 1st Init.String and the modem would not error out and that it would do a double dialtone and then dial. However it would not connect properly even though the panel would pick up.

I never knew that there was a Hayes modem that would not work. I have now been educated --------------- to the max.

Hey all,

I just found out that a Hayes SmartModem 1200 with Model # 6802US has 10 Dips the same as the Model # 07-00038.

Anyone here know if there some benefits to one of these modems over the other???

Or on the other hand are they exactly the same just that the 6802US was made just for the US market??

Looking for a little insight here. Thanks.

I used Hayes for FBII, Ademco, and older DSC. I have heard yu can make the Napco software work with it also, but I have always used a Cardinal for my Napco software.

Thanks but I was wondering about the different model numbers.

Model # 6802US vs. Model # 07-00038 if they both have the 10 dip configuration??

Thanks, Les
