I was reading a Canadian mail order catalogue and came across this item called the Davie-Bar. It really is quite ingenious. It acts as a door jam - preventing anyone from forcably opening the door. Even if they manage to get past any locks you have on your door, this will prevent them from entering. I ended up purchasing one for my grandmother who constantly worries about being robbed.
