What you mean its trippled in the last 3 months.... Im paying 42.00 per thousand feet 22/4 solid. How are you guys dealing with this?

Buy a damn wire stretcher. It turns 1000' into 2000' easy.

I think bAss sells them.

be glad you're not an electrician

what is that stuff? somewhere around 10-30 cents per foot?

It's a commodity the price always goes up and down. Buy more when it's lower. :-) Dealing with it?...you just increase the price of your installs, business

101. Gas goes up...increase the price of your service calls. What else would you do? Open your own coppermine? :-)))

I guess you could cover your butt by buying copper futures.

Dam is the apparently operative word behind recent price increases in copper wire. More specifically, the Three Gorges Dam. According to MSN, "World copper prices have risen more than 70 percent this year, supported by expectations of continued strong demand from China, where consumption of the metal is forecast to rise 14.5 percent this year. The price was about 2.5 times of the price of aluminum, which has risen 21 percent this year." The Chinese government even allowed contractors to switch from copper to aluminum for the TGD project.

Pass it on. and gaurd what you have. we've been having a lot of wire theft locally. one group got very bold recently and stole about 200 feet of 500mcm from a job site. they had to pull it out over the weekend and make off with it. it was already installed.

Hey, you're getting off easy ! The current price up here in Canada from the distributors locally is around $56 a box of 1000 feet ! And they won't guarantee the price from order to order.

Sounds more and more like the price of oil and how it's handled....

Theft of telephone and other copper cables is on the rise in these parts, so much so that the police are requesting scrap-metal dealers get the names and addresses of anyone wanting to sell them cable fragments.

News item from last week: a man who was known to police was electrocuted in an underground bunker near a power substation when he tried to cut through a section of LIVE 114,000 volt cable... His face was burned so badly he was initially unindentifiable.

One less moron for the taxpayers to support. Was the guy from Waco by any chance. :^)

I don't know where he was from Pinkie, all I know is Uncle Sam is investigating happenings in Sarasota having to do with illegal claims from "taxpayers".

3 months ago I was paying 22.50 per thousand feet. :(

Reminds me of something that happened to me back in the 70's during an increase in copper prices.

I owned a 60year old multi family dwelling. While collecting rent from one of my tennants, he mentioned that a couple of times, someone was coming around the apartment house at night and making noises against the house and out back by the garage. He'd called the police but they never found anyone. I looked around and didn't notice anything broken or missing. I didn't think anything more about it. That is, until then next time I went to the apartment building while it was raining. The driveway, usually puddle free, was loaded with water. Looking up it became clear what has happened. Seems they were coming to the house to take down the copper leaders as far up as they could reach on the house and all the leaders and gutters off the garage.

Damn!

That's your cost of doing business. Raise your rates.
