Why use X10 over Z-Wave?

After seeing how the Levitron and Z-Wave products are similar in price. Why would someone buy a 30yr old X10 based design over a new (I've used them they work fantastic) Z-Wave system?

Because there are far more things you can do with X-10 than with Z-Wave. What are you going to do when you want relays and digital inputs (i.e. garage door control), or hardwired inline modules?

In my case, I have chosen UPB over Z-Wave and X-10. Yet there are some things I will still need X10 for. The ceiling fans are going to be controlled by a Lightolier fan controller, for example.

Possibly because they don't want to buy an controller. It's usually easier to stick to what you have. X10 has been around and since then other technologies have come an gone. X10 also has a name.

Metal boxes can be a real pain when working with Zwave.

Did they ever come out with their 3-way switch?
