Hi, It occurs to me that in many cases when I want to go to a site, the chosen URL at the top of FF's window doesn't correspond to the one that shows up at the left hand bottom corner of the window. I suspect that my browser is diverted to an advertising site, or so, while I'm wanting another one. The next situation is actual at the moment: I was searching (Google) for currency converters. I clicked the first hit, showing the URL
I did the same steps with Internet Explorer, I didn't get an answer either, the only difference was that there at the bottom line could be read: "Opening page convert.cgi at
I noticed this behaviour at many sites lately. I mailed to various webmasters informing about this problem with their sites, and asking whether it might be my PC that is in err, or whether their site could be hacked. I didn't get any answer to my mails, but the next day or so the problem didn't occur any more. So, I suspect hacking is the matter, but I'm not sure.
My questions now are:
- Is there something wrong in my PC?
- If so, how can I correct this problem?
- If not, does this mean that the sites I am looking at are indeed hacked or something the like?
Could anybody answer these questions, and, if I can do something to avoid this annoying behaviour, how can I? Should I mail to all those webmasters, if 3 is true, like I did before?
TIA, Oriolus
