I'm interested in this switch and need to understand if the noise level is low enough for an office environment (read, it will be under my desk).

I've installed these under a desk. But it was inside a small enclosed rack. It has 2 fans I think. 24 gig ports with 4 GIBC ports needs some power. Not silent, but no jet engine either.
But why don't you go the product page and open a chat. Then someone at HP will look up the sound levels for you. :)
