Ports for MSN Messenger

Apr 14, 2005 1 Replies

I don't know if this is the best newsgroup for this question, but here goes: I want to set up my router to block certain services during certain hours of the day.

To select the services to block, I can create entries with port numbers, or a range of port numbers for blocking. In searching around, it appears that MSN Messenger uses ports 6891 to 6901, but I still find that it functions properly when the router should be blocking it.

Are there other ports uses by MSNM?

This is not really an Ethernet question--you might want to try comp.os.ms-windows.networking.tcp-ip or comp.protocols.tcp-ip.

That said, download Ethereal and learn how to use it and you should be able to find out the answer to this question on your own.
