we are currently looking to implement wake on lan on are network from a source host.
i have searched and looked up on this and most configurations show that when you go to the vlan and enable the "ip directed-broadcast" it is then followed by the acl you have configured to control the traffic, well this is the case for cisco.
i was wondering if anybody has succesfully implemented a wake on lan configuration on their network.
any help would be grealty appreciated.

Yes we have. The ACL is a list of networks or hosts that are allowed to send ip directed broadcasts. In our case, we have only two networks that are allowed to send directed broadcast messages. This command is only needed on segments that have WoL hosts attached to them.
We've implemented WoL. Usually "ip directed-broadcast" is disabled due to security considerations (just imagine, that someone can send a broadcast, and it will be distributed to all subnets...). So, that's why you have to limit a directed broadcast with an access-list. Usually you create a standard access-list with an IP address of the server (or workstation) which can "wake" a computers, and then enable ip directed-broadcast with this access-list. No other configuration required.
