What is the command in to find out how long it's been since a port was active?
There is no easy way to do this. To make a long story short, you would need to configure proper logging for ports (spantree logging will do this), and either have a long enough log, or send logging to a server for your review. Since arp/mac tables age out after a few minutes at the longest, there is no way to determine what was plugged in, or when it went dead, without proper logging.
Learn something new everyday I guess. I haven't run 4000s for a long time, and the command doesn't appear to be available on 6500s or IOS based switches....but thanks for the info!
I just tested it on a couple of other switches and it is only 4000. How lame of cisco to not add that to all IOS based switches. Its a real easy way to find an avaible port when you have cables in all ports.

this info is available thru an snmp read of the interfaces ; currently use it on 6509's and 3750 ,
