Help with WLC 4400 DHCP

Gang, I need some help. New Cisco WLC 4400

Just trying to get it setup, nothing fancy... Flat Network.. I have the LWAPs on line and etc but I can NOT get the WLC to act as a DHCP relay. I've tried everything.

DHCP Server is a superscope : 10.1.22.x and 10.1.23.x Management IP for device is 10.1.8.3 set to use DHCP server 10.1.22.2 and 10.1.23.2 (our servers) AP manager IP is 10.1.8.4 and uses the same DHCP servers above.

The networks are routed, via secondary interfaces on the core router

ip address 10.1.1.1 255.255.255.0 secondary 10.1.22.0, 10.1.23.0, 10.1.8.0

I do get the client associated with the LWAP, just can't get client a dhcp address. If I manually put one in, everything works fine.

What the heck am I missing?

Seem to remember, a while back, issues with supplying IP addresses via DHCP to a secondary interface. You may want to try and swap primary and secondary assignments on the interface.

Good call, I remember that. I'm still not having any luck though...

Our DHCP server is on a windows 2000 server... What I've done is created a fake scope for our primary interface (10.1.1.1). The scope covers the 10.1.1.x network BUT has all the IP's excluded (trick to make it roll over to our superscope).

Still no IP address.

Any thing else to try?

So you are only using 1 tagged VLAN, the management interface? You have

10.1.22.2 listed as the primary DHCP server? What mask are you using for this network? The Superscoped mask?

correct, since nothing is vlanned, I left the management interface untagged (0) The subnet I have for clients is 10.1.22.x 255.255.255.0 and 10.1.23.x

255.255.255.0. Everything is trunked ISL, but I trunked the switchport the 4400 plugs into on the 6509 to dot1. The network admin before me created a subnet for everything, using secondaries. I suppose he thought he was creating broadcast domains. It's turned into a head ache for me. He had a 10.1.8.0 255.255.255.0 network (again, secondary interface on router) setup where he has the access points.. The non LWAPS work fine (350 series and 1200 series)... but the 1242 LWAPS we are putting in now won't relay DHCP for me.

We purchased the software support and smartnet > So you are only using 1 tagged VLAN, the management interface? You have

Couple of more things you can try:

  1. Move the DHCP scope to the 4400 and let it serve clients
  2. Ensure you have a helper addresses on the 10.1.8.0 interface pointing to
10.1.22.2 and 10.1.23.2

Configure "override DHCP server" and point it to 10.1.8.4
