Help, please with NM-2E2W not coming up (Details inside)

Hello everyone.

I have a router I just bought that I installed a nm-2e2w into. The router recognized the module and the two ports. When a wic-1t is plugged into the module, it is recognized by the router. (I can't test it's connectivity as the 2nd 3620 has not arrived yet)

I erased the nvram, and then I ran setup. I only configured the ethernet interfaces, and have not installed any wics. I did not configure any other items. (SNMP, RIP, etc) There are no access lists on the router at all. ================

Now from what I am reading, this should work fine, the line protocols should come up. They do not. I tried different cables, and swapped in and out. With the workstation plugged directly into the switch, (with it's ip on the same network) it works fine. When the workstation is plugged into the router, there is no connectivity.

Am I just missing something here? I don't remember having to add more command for simple ethernet connectivity on the 25xx series. ====================

Have you set the affected switch ports to "no shut"?

| Straight cable connects workstation to router e0/0 | crossover cable connects switch to router e0/1

Swap the cables (crossover for workstation connection). Also check the default media type.

Yes, I used 'no shutdown'

From the int config prompt I sent these commands:

e0/0 shutdown ip address 192.168.2.158 255.255.255.0 no shutdown ^z copy run start

Port came up, line protocol stayed down.Straight cable to workstation

I switched the straight thru and the crossover cables to workstation

Line protocol came up on router..but.. Router started reporting massive collision errors and line errors.

The workstation did not find the network cable and stated no connection.

I suspected the cables so I tested them. I put both cables in question on a cable tester and they are valid cables.
