Ok, so here I am once more with that same cable modem. I set it up long enough so I can tftp in its startup-config file (I just like to see my comments there so I do not have to feel like Homer Simpson when I go check it 2million years in the future. I really do not trust my memory =). show startup-config spits out the right config file. Just to be on the safe side, I copy it to the running config. I then restart the beast by typing reload. What I find? My beautiful startup-config file is gone, being replaced by the default one those guys create on the fly when there is nothing around. What could be causing that?

A config-register set to ignore the NVRAM contents. What value do you have in "show version" ?
