Can I connect 3700 to 2600 via ethernet?

Sorry , sorry, sorry, for this newbie question, I supose that it's possible but...

I have a cisco 3745 connected via ethernet to a "river-stone fibber" then in the other side, there is another river stone connected to the

2610 ethernet. would there be any problems if I connect them directly? Will it work with a simple cross-over cable?

My current config is this:

3700->

interface FastEthernet0/1 description LINK METROLAN ip address 172.22.1.9 255.255.255.252 duplex auto speed auto priority-group 2 end

CISCO 2610

interface FastEthernet0/0 description LINK METROLAN ip address 172.22.1.10 255.255.255.252 duplex auto speed auto priority-group 2

Thanks and forgive me if it's a too basic question.
