Buffer errors (misses)

Hi all,

I've got some buffer errors on an 1811 - how serious is this?

Thank you!

Buffer misses happen by design. They are nothing to worry about.

As far as I know the "Public buffer pools: " section is the only part you can do anything with.

However - a large proportion of misses on a heavily loaded router will I feel affect the performance and I manually adjust buffers to reduce to reasonable levels.

Failures are not so good and more or less indicate a packet drop. You will usually see corresponding increments in interface drops/ignores/throttles.

In your case I may consider increasing the buff middle min-free a bit if I had some memory free.

Your miss/failure counters are low.
