Aironet 1200 AP as 1-port "Access Server"

Jan 16, 2006 2 Replies

All,

I have a requirement to access a single serial (console) port in a building where I can't run cables. Does anybody know if it is possible to perform a reverse telnet to the console port on an IOS 1200 series AP in WGB mode, effectively using the AP as a single port "Access Server"?

Thanks

Matt

why dont you just hook up a modem?? probably cheaper then maint on an AP?

Matt,

No, you can't do a reverse telnet out an AP1200s console port. Almost no IOS devices support reverse telnet on the console - the only exceptions are the 83x/85x/87x series routers, whose console port can be turned into an aux port.

There exist third party wireless devices that can tunnel async serial via a wireless bridge/router.
