AGS+ boot hang due to memory corruption?

Ok - I've got an AGS+ w/the CSC/4, bootstrap version 5.3(4), the daughter flashcard and it's trying to load from that flash (I'll assume - not 100% sure) version 10.3(4) GS3-K-M. It gets as far as the vefsion banner for the IOS and then it sits there. I did let it set there for over 2 hours once and I finally caught it proceeding to this:

I'll assume this is bad memory on the flash card or is it DRAM? Any ideas???

Your AGS+ is at least 15 years old and probably closer to 20!!! With something that old, it's hard to say what piece of hardware is bad. Could be memory, CPU, or some other component. Since it does boot, my first guess is that it's bad DRAM, but trying to find a replacement will be difficult.

If you do fix it, you can't run any version of IOS that could even be called "modern", as this platform has not been supported by Cisco for at least 12 years.

Maybe, but the heap problems are fairly high-level. Sure, bad memory can do most anything, but this feels more like software confusion. IIRC your NVRAM is actually RAM with a lithium backup battery. I'm not sure how things will behave if that battery is low. You might want to check and/or replace it.

Bad "magic" numbers usually point to a corrupt NVRAM or flash module. Is this an item that can be replaced on the AGS+? I have no idea...sorry!

BTW, where did you find this antique? Those things are ancient...hehe. Let us know if you actually get it working!

Thanks to everyone for their help thus far. Yes it is an ancient piece of hardware but with 4 ethernet ports it still has its purposes. I actually picked it up for nothing. The Flash card is a daughter card sitting on top of the main system board and was optional through the products' lifetime. It is replaceable; although where I might find another one I am unsure. The CSC/4 processor borad - I have seen them available on Ebay and might just pick one up for a spare. It holds the DRAM and the 68040 main processor. I will check that battery Dan - good call.
