Someone I know says that Cisco make SFP 2Gig transcievers (possible dual use fiberchannel/Ethernet) that can be used in Cisco switches to create 2Gig GigE links.

True! They even have CWDM FSP's (multiple wavelengts) Standard 1GEth and Fiberchannel 2 are no problem
