Need up to date IOS image for 2502 router

Hello All,

The company that I work for gave me an old 2502 router that they didn't need anymore. It has version 11.2 of IOS. I wanted to know if there is a way to obtain a more up to date IOS (eg. 12.2 or later) for it or if anyone has it available without having to pay for it or having a cisco login account to get it.

I have two other 2500 series routers with ver 12.2 of IOS so I know it exists for this model.

Hey, I just thought of this as I was writing this post. Can I use the image stored on one of my other routers and use that to update the IOS on my 2502 router or do I have to use a IOS version specific for the

2502 router? The other routers are 2501 and 2520.

Any help on this would be much appreciated.

Hi Adil

Providing you have enough flash and memory on your 2502 to hold the

12.2 IOS you can copy the IOS image from one of your other routers.

You need a tftp server to download the image from your 2501 or 2520 and then upload to your 2502.

You can get one at

You could be really clever and setup one of your routers with the 12.2 image as a tftp server and download directly to your 2502

You can find info here

Thanks for the quick response. As it turns out I don't have the same amount of memory in the 2502 router (only 8MB): The router from which I was trying to copy its image to the 2502 router has 16 MB of memory. Plus, I noticed that while the 2502 router has 16 MB of flash memory ( the same as the 2501) the flash is partitioned (8MB read/write and

8MB read only)

Ques. # 1: Is there a way to un-partition the flash to combine it into 16MB of read/write flash.

Ques. # 2: Can anyone provide any guidance on increasing the RAM in the 2502 router?

I provided the show ver/show flash for both routers below:

simply setup TFTPD services on the router having the 12 IOS (the router will act as a TFTP server) copy tftp flash on the onther one (make sure you have enough memory DRAM & flash ! )

You have 2 8mb flash cards. To combine them use the following command under config mode

partition flash 1 16

You will have to erase the second flash before doing this. I would recommend taking a backup before..

Just check ebay. Its a simple process. Just open up the box and exchange the RAM chip. Check out the documentation at cisco.
