encap command in sub-if config mode

hello;

I just discovered an odd situation with some of our 2600's. We have several pods. The pod I use the most does not have a problem. But recently I jumped on a different pod and noticed something strange.

I was trying to work through a lab that deals with inter-vlan routing.

when configging the router, you would setup sub-interfaces to handle the different vlans.

when you create a subif, you must first specify the encap.

Well this particular router did not have an "encap" command in the "sub-if" config mode.

the IOS is the same as the one I normally work on, and it has the "encap" command.

the ios ver is 12.2(12j) on both routers.

is there something I am missing?

A feature set or something?

thanx in advance.

Mark
