toolless cat5e jacks

I bought a bunch of these by mistake while assembling parts for a small home cabling project. I've used a 110 punchdown tool in the past, but as near as I can tell, you only need to compress the hinged cap of the toolless jack with a pair of pliers? Each jack also came with two extra plastic bits, any idea what these are for? Here's how the whole shebang looks:

The piece on the right slips down between the hinged cover and the body of the jack to prevent it from popping open by itself. Don't know about the other piece.
